MUSIC MONDAY: TWIN SHADOW

Note: I have heard this song a few times and always liked it. But for some reason a few months ago I was at Father’s Office and heard this song and became obsessed with trying to figure out who sang this song.

There are moments when I am at a store or watching a movie and a song comes on and I become OBSESSED trying to figure it out. So with no avail, I couldn’t figure it out. Then last week I was playing Spotify radio and this song came on and I screamed with excitement (thankfully I was in my car). I finally have this song and I couldn’t be happier. Moments like that are why I love music so much. Happy Monday!

HAPPY FRIDAY

This week seemed to fly by. After my amazing mini vacation last weekend I am looking forward to a nice mellow weekend. I am hoping to squeeze in a movie; I have really wanted to see Boyhood. Everyone has been raving about it.

Have a lovely weekend!

IN THE STUDIO: CURRENT/ELLIOTT

Normally I don’t post work from my full time job, but I couldn’t resists. I am extremely happy with the launch of the new Current/Elliott site. It is very clean, with large images and easier navigation. I love that you can choose how many images to view on each page. There was also the launch of a new category called Loved and Found, which was a fun section to design. I was able to be more creative with the layout and actual photography of the items. Since Current/Elliott is known for its vintage esthetic I was able to carry that idea through in this new category.

This was also the first time I had to design a site so it is responsive (it can work on all platforms mobile, tablets). There was a huge learning curve designing for large format and making sure it would work when scaled down. There was a lot of back and forth for each page design, but now I feel like a pro.

If you or someone you know is in need of something special, I would love to hear from you: hello@visuallylovely.com

THE WEEKEND: SAN FRANCISCO

Over the weekend I took a long over due trip to SF. I seriously love it up there. Here are some snap shots from my mini getaway.

I love the sea of color, especially the ones below. The gradient is lovely.

Two of my favorite spots in SF, The Ferry Building and Coit Tower.

Bright colored sprinkles are a must on top of homemade soft serve.

I loved the wall of bicycle seats at Public.

A trip to SF is never complete until I visit Miette; an added bonus is the beer garden across the way.

MUSIC MONDAY: DE LUX

These guys are awesome! His voice reminds me of David Byrne from the Talking Heads. There are a few songs I love from their new album; it was hard to pick one. I also wish I had seen them perform at the Hammer a couple Thursdays ago, I know I will now be on the lookout for an upcoming show. Happy Monday!

IN THE KITCHEN: VIBRANT FOOD

A couple months ago I bought another cookbook, Vibrant Food. I like this book because of the photography, the layout is clean and easy to follow and it is organized by season. I have made quite a few recipes already. What I love most is that most of the ingredients I can find at the farmer’s market. I also love that I don’t have to buy a bunch of random ingredients that I will never use again (that is a big pet peeve with cookbooks).

So far the one recipe I have made multiple times is this corn and summer squash fritters with avocado creme. Alone the creme is amazing, I have used the leftovers on some taco dishes and I even topped in on a piece of chicken. I am also dying to make the summer berry coconut milk pops. I am getting hungry just thinking about it!! I highly recommend checking out this book.

MUSIC MONDAY: CULTS

It seemed fitting to play Cults, because I am finally going to check out a free summer concert at the Santa Monica Pier this Thursday. It should be a great time, this band is pretty fun to dance to. Especially outside under the stars, looking forward to Thursday. Happy Monday!

VISUALLY LOVELY {11}

image

Last month I made the trek to MOCA at the Pacific Design Center to see the amazing exhibit by Jacob Hashimoto. Even though the space is small, his installation made up of tiny handmade kits made the space feel huge.

When you first walk in you see a cluster of black, white and grey kits. Some tangled together and others creating these beautiful patterns.

When you walk up the stairs to the main room, you are instantly taken a back by the pure scale of it all. He created a beautiful landscape of rolling clouds, the sun and even water. At some angles the kits created these crazy pixelated images, which sort of messed with my mind. I even had a sudden moment that I felt like I was floating.

I even loved the blocks of patterned kits.

I am so happy I made it out for this exhibit. It was truly inspiring.

MUSIC MONDAY: ROBYN & ROYKSOPP

In honor of her fantastic performance last night, I had to play this instant dance party song. The Hollywood Bowl turned into one big dance party; it was such a fun night. Happy Monday!
