MUSIC MONDAY: SPOON

I realized I have been MIA for a while, so I am starting where I left off. This song has been on heavy rotation lately. Spoon’s new album is pretty great but this song in particular really stuck to me. Happy Monday!

MUSIC MONDAY: TYCHO

I realized I never posted a recap of what I loved at FYF. Even though it was a shit show the first day I did get to see some good bands. One in particular was Tycho. Not only was their performance great, I really enjoyed their visuals. There were moments that shapes appeared with awesome color gradients, and others where beautiful shots of surfers. It went so well with their music. I love when you see a band live and you like them even more after seeing them live. This definitely happened for me.

Happy Monday!

HAPPY FRIDAY

Thank goodness for short weeks, I wish all weeks were like this. I never understood why we couldn’t adopt the 4-day workweek. This week was pretty fun, full of evening events and trying to enjoy the last weeks of summer. I am going to miss the summer nights in LA. I will be enjoying the last wine tasting of the season at Barnsdall tonight, so sad. I am also going to check out LACMA’s Expressionism in Germany, stay tubed. It’s a pretty packed weekend, no complaints here.

Have a lovely weekend!

IN THE KITCHEN: GREEN RICE WITH NECTARINES & CORN

Here is another great recipe I tried a month ago from that cookbook I have been raving about. I love this dish because of a couple reasons: one, it is super easy to make, two it is fast to make, three it gave me new ideas on how to prepare rice. The recipe says to serve right away, but I thought it tasted even better the next day. Since we are getting closer to fall I am looking forward to moving to the fall section of this book…stay tuned!

Over the holiday weekend I saw the movie Frank, it was pretty weird, but I loved it. One thing I really loved about Frank was the movie poster. In the beginning of my career I designed movie posters. So I am always on the lookout for nicely designed posters. Knowing what goes on in making a poster, I have a bigger appreciation for them. So I decided to put together a short list of some of my favorites (classics and current).

MUSIC MONDAY: ALLAH-LAS

mentioned Friday that I was venturing out to Echo Park Rising to see some live music. I particularly wanted to go to check out this band. I love their 60’s California surfer vibe. They are a great band to dance to. I did find out they are playing at the Santa Monica pier in September. I think the pier is the perfect backdrop for this band, I cannot wait. Happy Monday!

HAPPY FRIDAY

What a week, I am happy the weekend is here. I have a lot of fun things going on this weekend. I am going to check out some local music at the Echo Park Rising this evening, which will be fun. It seems like you just bounce around from venue to venue listening to local bands. So stay tuned…Have a lovely weekend!

THE MOVIE THAT STOLE MY HEART

I know I am really late on watching The Grand Budapest Hotel. I finally saw it a couple weekends ago and feel completely in love. Wes Anderson is a genius with beautiful imagery, colors and overall design.

I especially loved all the graphic elements, from the packaging and fonts for the Mendel’s shop. I even loved the small details like the book carried in the opening scene.

I think one of the best parts of this film was the beautiful symmetry represented throughout the film. Although that is his signature trademark it just shinned in this film.

I love when a movie inspires me, it doesn’t happen that often but when it does it sticks with me for a while. It is a strong statement to say, but I think this was one of his best films to date, although Royal Tenenbaums is still my favorite.

YOU WERE A GREAT ONE

RIP Mr. Williams

MUSIC MONDAY: GLEN HANSARD

Last night I enjoyed a lovely evening with some lovely bearded men, Iron & Wine, The Head and the Heart and Glen Hansard. I LOVE Iron & Wine so much, but I had to pick Glen Hansard today. I have seen him perform with is band The Swell Season, so I knew it was going to be great. Not to bad of a way to end a nice weekend. Happy Monday!
