IN THE KITCHEN: SALMON, RED QUINOA & ARUGULA SALAD
The other night I made something a little different. Instead of my usual salmon dinner, I came across this interesting recipe in Self’s May issue; salmon, red quinoa and arugula salad. This recipe was created by celebrity chef Mark Murphy so I was even more intrigued to try it.
This dish has a great mix of spices and textures. There are a lot of ingredients in this dish, but don’t...

DESIGN'VY #10
It is no surprise that I love ice cream. So when I came across this extremely cute identity for this company Eyescream I nearly fell out of my chair. Designed by M Barcelona, this entire identity has everything you need, cute little ice cream characters, super clean menu and who doesn’t love your ice cream staring back at you. I only wish this company was in the U.S. it is such...

MODERN DESSERT
I had something completely different to blog about this morning but saw this awesome video this morning and had to write about it. Pastry chef’s at the SFMOMA create these beautiful treats based off of famous modern artists like Piet Mondrian, Cindy Sherman and John Zurier. They even have a great cookbook; Modern Art Desserts that I need to pick up immediately.
My next trip to...

FOODIE TUESDAY: EAT DRINK AMERICANO
There has been a sudden rise in awesome restaurants popping up in the Arts District of Downtown L.A. and I am definitely not complaining. A new spot I tried twice last week was; Eat Drink Americano.
This place has a great atmosphere, great sandwiches, salads and an AMAZING hand lettered chalkboard wall. Being a graphic designer I appreciate the little things like that. I feel hand...

L.A. ADVENTURE {3}: TASTE OF THE EASTSIDE
This past weekend I wanted to check out an event held at Barnsdall Park in Los Feliz; the Taste of the Eastside. Granted I do not live on the eastside, but I do love food and a few places I have been dying to try participated. There were some major highlights.
The first of many stops was L&E Oyster Bar, I felt like I spent most of my time there. I have actually been to this place...

LOVE & HOPE
I am extremely sadden by the horrific events yesterday in Boston. My heart goes out to everyone. I came across this amazing quote from Mr. Rogers yesterday. It is so moving, beautiful and simply put. We all need to be helpers!

HAPPY FRIDAY
Thank goodness the weekend is here. I have to say I am little envious of all the Coachella fun this weekend. Even though I have no desire to attend, I just want to get away to Palm Springs. It is funny how Palm Springs has become the new LA getaway location. I think the best part is the traditional stop to visit the dinosaurs. I always think of Pee Wee when I stop there.
Have a lovely...

IN THE KITCHEN: CHICKEN SOUP
I have forgotten how good chicken soup is. I came across a super easy recipe from A Cup Of Joe. The only time consuming part is cutting up all the veggies. If you have a food processor I recommend using it, just throw everything in there and let it spin. I think one of the reasons why I like this recipe is because it is packed with veggies. This time since I have so much leftover I put...

VISUALLY LOVELY {8}
Is it weird to say I cannot wait for fall? Red Valentino’s Fall 2013 collection makes me so happy. It seriously screams ME, I would wear every single piece in this collection. It has such a fairy tail feel, and I love the Hansel and Gretel paintings. I cannot get enough of the embroidered embellishments, and the playful silhouettes.

L.A. ADVENTURE {2}: THE OLD PLACE
For this installment of L.A. adventures it was more of an impromptu adventure. I hopped in my car and took a wonderful drive through Malibu canyon to a really cool hidden treasure, The Old Place. Tucked away in Agoura Hills lies this really cool western style bar, that serves very rustic food. My sister and I enjoyed a giant cheese platter, steak and potatoes and finished it off...

IN THE KITCHEN: POLENTA AND MUSHROOMS
A few nights ago I wanted to tryout a recipe that I had in my brain for awhile, so I made it and it was a success. Polenta with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes in a white wine sauce. It’s funny I am not a fan of white wine, but I do love cooking with it especially with mushrooms it adds a great depth. Plus the polenta absorbs the sauce making it extra tasty. It is really easy to make you can...

IN THE KITCHEN: COCONUT-LIME TILAPIA
I have been trying out a lot of new recipes lately so here is another I have been making quite a bit. It is super easy and really healthy. It tastes like vacation with the mix of coconut oil and lime. I also love the raw spinach because when you place the hot fish on top it slowly wilts the leaves.
INGREDIENTS
Zest of 3 limes
4 cloves of garlic, minced
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper

IN THE KITCHEN: RED QUINOA SALAD
So last night, as usual I had a craving for Mexican food. I had a bunch of veggies I needed to use but didn’t want the usual tostada or taco. So I decided to whip up a spanish style red quinoa salad, oh man was it good
It is so easy just cut up everything and throw it together, how can you not make this dish. I basically eyeballed everything, since it’s a salad go nuts. I...

HAPPY FRIDAY
I know some people might laugh about this entry but who cares. This weekend I will be selling my Mini that lasted me 9 years (my first new car) and upgrading to a brand new Mini S. Living in LA a car is a way of life, I have had many memories in that car. Lots of laughs a few tears and lots of loud singing and car dancing. I don’t know why I am so sentimental over a car, but since I spend...

IN THE KITCHEN: ESCAROLE SOUP WITH MEATBALLS
For whatever reason my mailbox was inundated with Women’s Health magazines this month. I always enjoy their recipes because one they are super healthy and two they are usually pretty easy to make. Of course when I came across another soup recipe I had to try it. This is probably the fastest soup I have ever made. Since I have introduced meat back into my diet I thought this was a perfect...

L.A. ADVENTURE {1}: WATT'S TOWERS
Over the weekend I had this overwhelming feeling to do something different. So I had the bright idea to start exploring L.A. Even though I have lived here for years, I feel I take this city for granted. So with that said, twice a month I will visit a new spot and bring some friends along for the ride. I am really excited to see where the city takes me.
For my first stop; Watt’s...

LOVE LIFE
For the past few months I have been thinking about my life; am I living it to the fullest, am I taking it for granted. It seems a lot of people have those same thoughts. When I came across this quote it really stuck with me. I think everyone needs to live by Mr. Hemingway’s thought.

WINE TASTING
Deciding to take the trip to SF and go wine tasting was the best idea and exactly what I needed. It was so beautiful up on Sonoma, the weather was perfect, the wine was good and the company was great. I have never done a barrel tasting before. You basically visited each vineyard and have a taste straight from the barrel. It was very interesting.
FIRST STOP: Rodney Strong Vineyards, the...

CHOP CHOP?
Recently I have had the itch to chop my hair off. I go back and forth and it drives me crazy. This image is one reason why I don’t take scissors to my hair. I love the milkmaid braid look so much (I happen to be sporting them today). I actually love everything about this image the colors, the textures, so stunning. I will see how I feel tomorrow about my hair.

HAPPY FRIDAY
I sure am happy it’s Friday. Even though it was a short week, it felt pretty long and stressful. This weekend I am hoping to just relax and enjoy the outdoors.
Thanks to my lovely friend she sent me an article from Los Angeles magazine that I really wanted to get a copy of. The article was about the best hidden spots in LA ranging from food, outdoor activities and culture. I am dying to...
